I want to challenge you in making a change in your life for the better.
We all struggle with a particular set of sins.
I don’t just want you to confess your sins, lament against them and fall into them again.
Let’s get rid of them. Let’s cut them off!
In our act of contrition we say we firmly resolve to avoid the near occasions of sin.
So let’s look at the near occasions of sin and lets do battle.
Look at the sources and triggers that leads you into sin.
Is it certain people, TV, Internet, when you are tired or stressed, bored (the devil finds time for idle hands) or a particular time of day or something else.
Look at examples of the saints. St Mary of Egypt, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Benedict and many others… What did they do when faced with temptation? Well… they ran into a thorn bush, roll naked in the snow, etc.
Those are pretty drastic but that is how dangerous sin is to our soul.
You need to find what triggers you to fall into sin and then find ways to overcome it with prayer and practical means of alleviating that temptation. It could be removing yourself from the situation, going for a walk, calling your accountability partner, naming the sin out loud and then saying a Hail Mary.
Whatever it is…
If you are having trouble you don’t have to come up with it on your own. Model the saints. They have a proven blueprint that works.
Find one that works for you.
Please pray for me. I will be praying for you.
