When it comes to the faith, how much skin do you have in the game? How much do you invest in your faith daily, weekly, yearly? Is it more or less than your profession or favourite pastimes?
It is human nature: where we invest our time, treasure and talents is where our hearts and minds are.
If you don’t invest (or invest enough) in your faith you will not practice (or at least not as hard), you will not suffer for it or perservere. It is easy to walk away because you have little to nothing invested in it. You have nothing to lose, or so you may think. Reality is your soul is on the line.
People do more to protect what they have than to get something more. And nothing is more important to protect than the salvation of your own soul and those God has entrusted to us.
As Ven. Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, “Unless souls are saved, nothing is saved.” We, the Church, are on the Christ given mission to save souls.”
The stakes are high and they are getting higher by the day. Just the other day the major headlines are “Clinton campaign chief helped start Catholic organisations to create ‘revolution’ in the Church”, “WikiLeaks: Catholic Church ‘Middle Ages Dictatorship,’ Need ‘Revolution’ Against Bishops” and most disturbing of all “Leaked e-mails show George Soros paid $650K to influence bishops during Pope’s US visit”.
This is the reason for the message of this email. It is time to invest even more in our faith during this time of crisis of faith and confusion. Those headlines, as disturbing as they are, are a good reminder of the ongoing spiritual battle that we face and fight daily (Ephesians 6:10-20). We need to double down and work out our own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) and be a bulwark of faith for our brothers and sisters.
The stakes are high. Souls are on the line. It’s time to put more skin in the game.
God love you.
