Today I spoke to a friend, who works in a faith environment and he feels that Catholic morals are being questioned. He said that he noticed how much the Catholic Church is under attack even from within.

As a Catholics, who are devote and try to live out our authentic faith, it worrisome to see that we have to fight for our faith even from within.

Why are we straying away from teachings of the Church? Since when did we start to question things like divorce? Or Euthanasia? Homosexuality? Contraception?

This idea that we have to modernize the Church is exactly what is destroying the foundation of it. We cannot change what has been set into place for thousands of years by Christ and the Magisterium,  and believe that this is good.  The doctrines of the church cannot be changed.

The doctrines of the Catholic Church are the deposit of faith revealed by Jesus Christ, taught by the apostles, and handed down in their entirety by the apostles to their successors. Since revealed truth cannot change, and since the deposit of faith is comprised of revealed truth, expressed in Scripture and Sacred Tradition, the deposit of faith cannot change.

When it comes to these questions regarding our moral standpoints in the Church, it is our obligation to pray for guidance and wisdom to always remain on the path of Christ. The Holy Spirit gives us the gift of wisdom, to discern the truth. Wisdom is the gift of seeing everything through the eyes of God, to see how He sees.  Then when we look at the world, and we are cooperating with the Holy Spirit, He gives us the spirit of truth.

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and He will be in you.” –John 14:17

We know the spirit of truth, because He dwells within us. We know that He will always guide us, even through the most difficult times. When we have to defend our faith and the teachings of the church, we must trust that the Holy Spirit, the giver of wisdom, will be there to guide us through.

For us to be able to grow in the spirit of truth, we have to renew everyday our belief that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. With Him, all things are possible, and all trials can be conquered.

“…when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.”- John 14:13
