“I will give you a new heart and a new mind. I will take away your stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart” –Ezekiel 36:26
On this cold and winter day, picture yourself down south. You’re on a beautiful beach, right by the ocean. The water is so clear and a deep turquoise colour. Waves so gentle going in, and back out. You spot a really beautiful island not far off shore so you decide to take a swim to check it out. As you’re swimming you hit a current, and the waves start to get stronger. Your initial reaction is to fight against the current and the waves, and keep swimming against them. You have your mind completely determined that this is the fastest and maybe only way to get to the island. As you’re swimming, you start getting tired and frustrated, but you keep pushing and pushing. You are completely determined to get there your way.
How many times have we felt completely exhausted, frustrated and tired from fighting those currents and waves in our own lives? Maybe you’re stuck in the same life situation and don’t know why, maybe you’re struggling with being stuck in a class you feel is a waste of time, maybe you can’t find that ideal job you want or got rejected from that program you dreamed of, maybe you are still single and struggling with patience for God’s timing, or maybe you are going through a dry patch in your faith and struggle to hear God’s voice and His call. Sometimes it’s not life that we are fighting against…but God himself. We will wrestle back and forth because we are so stuck in our own ways, our own state of mind. We are so convinced that the path we have chosen to take is the only possible way to get to our destination.
I want to ask you a question that took me some time to be open to hearing it: what would happen if you just let go and went with the current? If you just turned on your back and let it take you to wherever it leads? Is it possible that you just might end up on that same beautiful island you wanted to get to in the first place? What if it took you to a more beautiful island? I don’t know the answer as to where God’s current will take you in your life, but I can tell you that the moments I just let go and enjoyed the ride, God always lead me to where I was supposed go. Sometimes it even was where I originally wanted to go, but sometimes it was to a place that was better than I imagined, and the ride was a LOT more FUN! I was able to see things around me that I would’ve missed if I were only focused on fighting through it my way.
I want to encourage you today to stop fighting against the current, stop fighting the waves in your life. Lie down in the water and just be. Embrace all the beautiful scenery around you, the warmth of the water, the colourful fish that swim bellow …look at all those things that you would’ve missed out on seeing if you were only focused on swimming against the current and waves. Yes, sometimes the waves might be high and strong, sometimes they might be low and gentle, but learn to RIDE those waves! God wants to take you on a beautiful journey on His ocean! He wants to be the wind that guides your sails. All you need to do is let go, lie back…and enjoy the ride!
Praying for you all!
