Let’s take a moment to reflect on our priorities. In light of the controversy around the killing of Cecil the Lion, followed by multiple videos released* exposing the gruesome reality of Planned Parenthood, the response to these two events have been telling of our culture’s priorities. And so, we must take this opportunity to ask ourselves, do we, as Christians, have our priorities straight? Let’s not allow the business of life to hinder us in answering that question and making any necessary life changes.
What do you make a priority in your life? What is it that you spend your time, talent and treasures on?
As Christians we know that we are made to know, love and serve God. If this is our purpose in life, and a requirement to get to heaven, are we making our faith and salvation of our souls (and those souls around us) a priority?
We say and know that our faith in Jesus and the Church He established is important but do our actions reflect that? What upsets us more: the killing of Cecil or the killing of millions of preborn human beings? Are we willing to speak up for the defenseless? For every life that is snuffed out by abortion, there is the corresponding life of the mother who will be forever changed and is in great need of healing lest her soul perish without reconciling with God.
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2258: “Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.”
What are you willing to sacrifice for the faith? Are you willing to pay for it financially and/or socially?
Let’s get our priority straight and stand up for our faith, the Truth and all human beings.
