Any time you sincerely want to make a change in your life the first thing you must do is raise your standards. The most important thing is change what you demand of yourself. If you don’t demand a lot from yourself, where will you go? Where will you be? If you don’t push yourself, how will you get it or grow?
When it comes to our faith what kind of standards have you set for yourself? Do you demand as much or more in your relationship with God than in other areas of your life?
When we set a standard that becomes the baseline of what we accept or don’t accept. When we demand and expect certain things we tend to achieve those things since our actions and decisions are based on those standards. Sadly, when it comes to our faith we tend to not demand a lot from ourselves. We tend to excuse ourselves, or rationalize “God understands”, we give Him the left overs (usually at the end of the day when we are half asleep) or tend to try to fit God into our lives instead of making God a part of our lives.
We are all called to be in Heaven with God. However, only Saints are in Heaven. Do your standards support this goal? Do you demand from yourself the love and sacrifice of a Saint? If not, then perhaps it is time to raise your standards.
